Why Developing Arguments Matters
In IELTS Writing Task 2, strong arguments make your essay convincing and logical. You must support your ideas with examples, evidence, and balanced viewpoints to achieve a high band score.
1. Using Examples Effectively
Examples help your reader understand your point better and make your ideas feel realistic.
- Personal examples: “For instance, many students struggle to focus when learning online.”
- General examples: “For example, research shows that remote work boosts productivity.”
Tip: Use 1–2 examples per body paragraph to clarify your argument — keep them short and relevant.
2. Supporting with Evidence
Evidence gives strength to your argument. It can be facts, studies, logical reasoning, or general truths.
- “Studies indicate that…”
- “According to recent surveys…”
- “It is widely accepted that…”
Tip: You don’t need real data — logical, believable examples are enough for IELTS.
3. Balancing Your Points
High-level essays show balance — acknowledging different sides before concluding your opinion.
- Balanced sentence: “While technology has improved communication, it has also reduced face-to-face interaction.”
- Contrast phrases: however, on the other hand, although, whereas
Tip: Showing both sides makes your writing mature and analytical.
